I understood the meaning of the word, it help me to understand author's message by telling that india is itselfcontained landmass . It help me you to understand that Columbus sale to india landmass.

The definition of the word is a native or inhabitant of Spain. Once I understood the meaning of the word it helped me to understand the author's message because if I put the definition in the sentence I understand it,but if I put the real word it doesn't make much sense.
