The speed-related events at the Olympics are so competitive that even a hundredth of a second can make a difference between the gold and silver medal. It is therefore no wonder that everything - From the food the athletes eat to the clothes and shoes they wear are geared, for optimal performance.

To answer your question, the hole on the suit will help the speed because it reduces the air stream around the suit, by spliting the direction of the air pressure. The pressure would move to the back making the suit turning the air. It strains it so it leads to faster & better performance.

Really what dose a hole have to do with speed on a suit

It makes more aerodynamic because the air around the suit is pushing the runner forward which causes less fatigue

They should make it more aerodynamic so it can possibly shave off 1.00 instead of 0.23

I don't think the suit makes any difference. The athletes are good, and if you say that the suit is making them win then you are basically taking credit for their gold medal. I mean, come on!
