Giant squids, the kind referred to in Jules Verne's 1870 novel, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, have been known to exist for many centuries. However, finding the world's largest invertebrate in its natural habitat had proved a little elusive. Now, thanks to some patient Japanese researchers, we can all finally get a glimpse of this magnificent cephalopod!

many strange creatures lurk deep in the ocean.one of the most mysterious is the giant squid. Some had been caught in fishing nets or found washed up onshore no one had ever seen a giant squid alive up close or had ever gotten a picture of one. That all changed a few years ago. Researchers got the first pictures of a giant squid alive and swimming in the deep ocean.it is about 660to2,300 feet deep giant squid are invertebrates, animals without back bones. they are the largest invertebrate earth. giant squid can grow to be 59 feet long. giant squid have largest eyes of any animal about 10 inches across. giant squid have eight arms and two tentacles. the tentacles bring food to their mouths. giant squid are hard for scientists to study because they live in deep ,very dark parts of the ocean.
