India is known for a myriad of colorful festivals. However, very few are as joyous as Diwali or Deepavali (row of lighted lamps). Also called the Festival of Lights, the ancient holiday that extends across many cultures and beliefs is celebrated for five days and is one of the most anticipated and eagerly awaited of all Indian celebrations.

I learned that the Festival of Lights is a time where people from India (and other cultures) celebrate the triumph of good over evil. They celebrate the Festival of Lights for 5 days, and each day celebrates something different. The third day is the day people most look forward too, you go to the closest temple and pray. After prayer, they go celebrate with family and eat Indian sweets. People also celebrate the Festival of Lights by exchanging gifts, making their own firework show, eating food, and going on shopping sprees to buy expensive items such as colorful clothes or gold jewelry.

I learned that this light celebration is a time when many people from mostly India celbrates the triumph of good over evil by eating delicious food, making their own firework show, and buying many expensive things such as gold or jewelry. However, the day that they mostly look foward to is Diwali. In fact, kids can have a vacation from school for a whole week due to this special celebration.

I learned that they had celebrations that last for 3 days. But everybody likes the third day of the best because it is Diwalil day.
