Self-healing concrete may be coming soon (Credit tudelft.nl)

Concrete has been a significant contributor to the spread of civilization. From the Pantheon built by the Romans almost 2,000 years ago to our homes today, the concoction made from water, aggregate, and cement, is why our structures can withstand the harsh elements of nature. But this seemingly indestructible material does have an Achilles' heel - The micro-cracks that form as it dries.

This was really cool to read, for example how the bacteria creates calcite to repair the cracks. It was hard to pick what kind of bacteria to use because most options would die from moisture. First the crack hits a certain point to were it "initiates" the bacteria. Then the bacteria then produces calcite to repair the crack. Finally the crack is slowly repaired and it would also be to expensive for widespread.

The bacteria sounds amazing. Plus if the bacteria were to spread what would happen. Would it do the same thing or do something else to the world? What if the bacteria comes up throw the crakes? Would it spread if a person stepped on it?
