If you happen to live in the Northern Hemisphere, you may want to plan extensive activities to keep dad entertained this Father's Day. That's because June 21st happens to be the start of summer and the longest day of the year. Also known as summer 'solstice' - a Latin word for 'sun stands still', it is the day when the tilt of the Earth's semi-axis, in the northern hemisphere, is most inclined toward the sun.

- dulajperera약 10년Well, I do not seem to see or hear any celebrations or festivals for summer or winter solstice. But of course, since I am living in the Middle East, these days, muslims celebrate Ramadan. I guess that's somewhat similar to these summer and winter solstice celebrations. But what makes Ramadan different from usual celebrations is that you need to fast. You need to fast at dawn (fajr) and sunset (maghrib). Different cultures do have common things in contrast.
- felicisowl약 10년That's really cool :) It's interesting to learn that different cultures celebrate different holidays.. well, mainly because their religions differ and they celebrate different deities for the major holidays.. I think..
