Columbus Day, which is celebrated annually on the second Monday of October to honor the Italian explorer credited with “discovering” the Americas, has always been somewhat of a controversial holiday. That’s because while Christopher Columbus stumbled upon what we now call the Caribbean on October 12, 1492, he never set foot on the mainland – even on his subsequent three journeys. Besides, North America had already been “discovered” by the Native Americans, who had been living there for many generations.

- chelly_bby37년 이하I think its better to change it to Indigenous peoples day because in my opinion Columbus was not a hero because he killed lots of people that didn't do anything to him and that is very rude in my opinion

- ilovecakeforeve7년 이하I thing it should be called indigenous people day because Columbus slaved a lot of the natives and he didn't even discover the indes or idea
- ELIZABETH KYLE7년 이하My students have recently read and studied Columbus and many have strong feelings as to the need to change how we celebrate this holiday

- kimcool27년 이하i think the day should not be christophor columbus day because to me he doesent deserve it
- Lis7년 이하I don't think we should celebrate Columbus day because he killed many Natives
- Sr. Grinch7년 이하I think it should be indigenous people day because Christopher Columbus came to America and didn’t even care that there were people there, he just claimed it for Spain. He killed and enslaved the indigenous people so I don’t think he should have a whole day that celebrates his discovery.
