Columbus Day, which is celebrated annually on the second Monday of October to honor the Italian explorer credited with “discovering” the Americas, has always been somewhat of a controversial holiday. That’s because while Christopher Columbus stumbled upon what we now call the Caribbean on October 12, 1492, he never set foot on the mainland – even on his subsequent three journeys. Besides, North America had already been “discovered” by the Native Americans, who had been living there for many generations.

Personally I would keep as Christopher Columbus day. The Indians while did get lots of disease did fight the settlers too. They had weapons and used them. As well If he didn't stumble on America the world in technology and just over all would be behind as America would shape the world because of Columbus. Even if he killed many natives he still was important to American and world history.

The reason why the natives fought Columbus is because they wanted to defend themselves and their righteous home. Columbus was disgraceful and was rude to the Native Americans.

I think that the name should not be changed. Names should not ever matter. You should be able to chose what to celeabrate on Columbus Day.

I say yes to Indigenous Peoples Day ,because Christopher C. discovering America is a whole lie.He destroyed their villages and took over their land .Plus he thought he was in India!

I agree with changing Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day. Literally Columbus made a wrong turn and ended up in the new world. He didn't even know that he wasn't in India! Why should we honor him for a mistake?

Yes Changing Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day is a practical and obvious change which flows with a nation growing into its diversity. It is important to pay homage to the people whose home this was first and who continue to support and contribute toward its growth and character.

I don't think that Columbus should be honored because he killed many Native Americans just because he wanted to claim the land. Native Americans should be honored for resisting and being brave.

This holliday should not be called columbious day because columbis only took over places that were already discovered and inslaved the native peoples living there
