Columbus Day, which is celebrated annually on the second Monday of October to honor the Italian explorer credited with “discovering” the Americas, has always been somewhat of a controversial holiday. That’s because while Christopher Columbus stumbled upon what we now call the Caribbean on October 12, 1492, he never set foot on the mainland – even on his subsequent three journeys. Besides, North America had already been “discovered” by the Native Americans, who had been living there for many generations.

str1186약 7년wolfdog makes a good point, but I could go for either side. There are many reasons to change the name, but there are also many reasons to keep it. keeping it would be protecting a traditional holiday that's been celebrated for hundreds of years. some people think about their future children growing up without a Columbus day; the holiday would be forgotten forever. But, if we're all being honest, Columbus was a terrible person. he never really even discovered America (he wasn't even the first one there), so why are we celebrating him? Hmmmm....- 😕😕😕😕😕😕😕약 7년what does this mean???😕
wolfdog약 7년I believe it should stay the same. Have we ever changed the name of a holiday, or replaced it with another holiday? No. Should we replace Christmas with 100% Hanukkah? Because some people celebrate it? No. I think we should (on a personal scale) decide for ourselves, but remember what the world would've been like if nobody dared to cross the entire ocean in the 1400s.- clln 약 7년indigenous people is a better name and holiday
