On Thursday, May 31, 14-year-old Karthik Nemmani stunned the world when he beat crowd favorite and veteran competitor Naysa Modi, to win the coveted Scripps National Spelling Bee championship. His winning word? Koinonia, an obscure word of Greek origin, which means “an intimate spiritual or Christian communion.” The Texas eighth grader’s opportunity came unexpectedly in the first championship round after Naysa mixed up the single and double “s” in bewusstseinslage, a German-derived word which means “a state of consciousness or a feeling devoid of sensory components.”

typarmesean약 7년in 5th grade, i got on the spellbowl team for my grade. the competition was on my birthday, so i was excited. we were like fourth place, and the me and one of my friends went up on stage to spell words. we were the last ones, so the pressure was on. we both got all of our words right, so we bumped up to second place. I will never forget that moment. our team cheered for us, and i was happy. this shows tons of inspiration for people in the near future who will be on the scripps national spelling bee, and might end up winning the whole thing. :)- r435 345약 7년Amazing
