Caltech and NTU researchers developed a new fabric that can become rigid on demand (Credit: Caltech)

Many superheroes wear capes. But Batman's imposing floor-length cloak is legendary. The twisting sheath not only adds to the Dark Knight's mystique but also transforms into a rigid fabric that allows him to fly for extended periods. Now, engineers at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore have replicated the shape-shifting material in real life.

It is fabric, but if you watch the first video it can be used to create temporary bridges for cars.

Probably isn’t, The average speed for a bullet, straight from the barrel is 16000 pounds of thrust, ant the video said it could hold UP to fifty pounds of thrust, and I bet, that by the way that that guy was throwing that chain mail around, I’d say it cold hold up to 150 pounds, so, no it isn’t bullet proof, if the muzzle was right on top of it
