Will Washington, DC, Become The 51st US State?

On April 22, 2021, for the second consecutive year, the US House of Representatives voted 216-208 to make Washington, DC, the nation's 51st state. Though the symbolically titled H.R. 51 bill is identical to the one passed on June 26, 2020, the legislation was never put to the vote in the then Republican-controlled Senate. However, this time around, the bill — which has the support of both President Joe Biden and Democratic Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer — will get a hearing in the upper house of Congress.

puppyangel5064년 이상I think they are just trying to give the democrats more votes which is kinda unfair for 1 and 2 why would they make Washington DC a state when in the constitution it says it shouldn't be a state and 3 They haven't even made Puetro Rico a state yet I'd be fine with them trying to make Puerto Rico a state but Washington DC? shocksling4년 이상If Washington D.C. was the last capital of Philidelphia, what will be Philidelphia's new capital? And what will be Washington D.C.'s capital? Even if there are Republicans and Democrats, there should not be more Democrat states purposefully created but, Republicans don't get any extra? That is not fair.

nimbusnightsky4년 이상That's crazy that they would have to make a whole new flag. It would be uneven on the flag because 50 stars are even and 51 stars are uneven so it would take time to get used to it.

zooloo154년 이상Why are we even considering this like come on if we are going to make a new state it should be Puerto Rico or another territory as long as they are ok with it of course. My mom is Puerto Rican and I know some puerto ricans don't like it being a U.S. territory but I think territories should at least have some say in government I mean look at recent events if Puerto Ricans were able to vote there would likely already be systems in place in case of disasters like hurricanes.
