Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery in the US (Credit: https://www.dodea.edu)

Juneteenth — a combination of the words June and nineteenth — is one of the oldest known holidays commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. It was on June 19, 1865, that the nation's last enslaved people — a group in Texas — learned that slavery had been outlawed and that they were free. The events leading to what many call "America's true Independence Day" began with the Emancipation Proclamation, signed by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863.

"While the 94-year-old is confident that Juneteenth will soon be declared a national holiday, she just hopes it will be during her lifetime."-This Article Well, my answer to that is YES! On June 17th 2021, Joe Biden officially made Juneteenth a national holiday! Hooray! I hope the former African American slave souls in heaven will finally be at rest now.

Slavery is a very bad thing that back then was considered "normal" in society. This was a very wrong thing that people did in the past, and I'm glad that Juneteenth is here to honor the abolishment of slavery. Today I am celebrating this federal holiday by researching about abolitionists and all of the great people in the past who took that stand to abolish slavery. I hope you guys are having a great summer, and I love being in this very friendly community!
