Columbus Day, which honors the Italian explorer's October 12, 1492, arrival to the Americas, has been a US federal holiday since 1971. However, the holiday, marked annually on the second Monday of October (October 10th this year), has always been controversial. Many believe that the European settlers' mistreatment of the Native American people is not a cause for celebration.

deafgirlhistory약 3년I support and respect Native Americans, I think that Native Americans should deserve to some have respects, some of my friends are Native Americans so it`s pretty cool that i`m learning their culture and history!😀

leevithecool약 3년I say it should be Indigenous Peoples' Day because the Native Americans were the ones who discovered the New Word first. And also, I think the main reason people would rather have it Indigenous Peoples' Day is that Christopher mistreated, tortured, and even killed the American Indians.
