There have been numerous attempts to create an all-plastic bike. However, most have never made it past the prototype stage. Igus, a Germany-based manufacturer of high-performance plastics, and Dutch start-up MTRL aim to change that with the igus:bike — the world's first urban bike crafted almost entirely from recycled polymer.

I can't believe a single adult bike gives new life to about 35 pounds of plastic that would otherwise clog landfills or waterways! Did you know that a plastic cup can take 50 - 80 years to decompose? And an estimated 13 billion plastic bottles are disposed of each year? Or that plastic bags and other plastic garbage thrown into the ocean kill as many as 1 million sea creatures every year? I believe this revolutionary advancement in our effort to reduce plastic waste will most definitely help both us and wildlife!
