Columbus Day is celebrated annually on the second Monday of October. It marks Christopher Columbus's arrival to the Americas. However, the US federal holiday, which will be observed on October 9 this year, has always been controversial.

Hmm... what a dilemma. And honestly, I can't make up my mind about it.

I don't think Columbus Day is true... there were already people in North America, plus the Vikings made it into modern day Canada. So I just think it is a normal day.

Indigenous People's Day for sure! Columbus came over to America, where people were there already, and enslaved them. I think it is totally fitting that October 12th is observed for the Natives. Also, how can Columbus be the first person to discover America when the Native Americans were already there? Anyways, I think the holiday is special, no matter you're take on the name of it. Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day!!

The more I look into this, the clearer it becomes that it should be Indigenous Peoples' Day. Christopher Columbus definitely shouldn't be one of only two people to have any American holiday named after him. He was extremely violent, made a business of slavery, and never set foot on this continent -- and that's just the tip of the iceberg of reasons. The reasons are so compelling that just about anyone who wants to can replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples' Day in their city by educating their community leaders.. Bon Voyage Columbus Day!

I think both are cool! I just learned about both in history! I think the Indigenous peoples' had neat and smart ways of doing things! I am not really a big fan of columbus (mostly because he wasn't very nice to the indigenous people but he was also supposed to be someone he's not) but if he didn't find America we might not have had this beautifl country we live in today. Happy Indigenous Peoples' day and Columbus day!!!
