Astronomers Detect A Star Swallowing A Planet

Scientists have long theorized that older stars swell up as they age and devour nearby planets. However, the assumption has been derived from observations made before and after the event. Now, for the first time, astronomers have caught a star in the act of engulfing a planet. The star, known as ZTF SLRN-2020, resides approximately 12,000 light-years away in our galaxy near the Aquila constellation.

celestialk2년 이하Scary and cool. I agree adroit_avimimus, it is scary. I wonder how the Earth will look like five billion years from now, the advancements, evolution, and the environment. All these will play a role in how the human race will react to this situation, for all we know the Earth may not survive for another five billion years. We may have civilizations on other plants to go there, we may not even be on Earth. And how will evolution effect this. The environment could also play a role in this, some animals might go extinct, and there's evolution again. Just thinking one day the very Earth we live on today will one day be swallowed by the very Sun that keeps our life's going as we know it, is scary. Also I'm not looking forward to that day, even though I won't be there. Bye!!! ;)
