Juneteenth is observed annually on June 19. The federal holiday commemorates the end of slavery in the United States (US). On this day in 1865, the last enslaved people in America learned they were free.

    It's sooo unfair that people used to get treated like that because they were just like white people they just have different colour skin and doesn't mean that you can slave them just because of there different colour skin it's not there fault that they have different colour skin..... 😡

              You know how the thirteenth amendment says that slavery is illegal? Well it actually says "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." So that means if someone is convicted of a crime they can be enslaved. Think about that.

                  You're right, it does say that, however the amendment aimed to end chattel slavery (like a person being seen as property that is used for work rather than an actually human being), and thankfully, that's gone. 🙌 The exception is outdated, and I don't believe the courts would allow true slavery as a punishment. Good catch tho! I'm a huge fan of the amendments so I really appreciate your thought!

                      It was so unfair that people were enslaved for different time periods, especially over 2 years! Everyone should have the same rights.
